Life is Too Short for Bad Books

Sometimes when you read, your surroundings seamlessly fall away and you become immersed in a new universe with fully fleshed-out characters and storylines that pivot your worldview and make you feel truly seen and heard.

That is the power of a good book.

But other times, you find yourself fully aware of your physical surroundings, including the way the cold metal of the chair seeps from underneath your jeans and how your eyes drag from left to right and back again –– rereading the same passage because you just can’t seem to focus on the words in front of you.

You find yourself mentally reaching into the book and forcing your way through the pages, but instead of being pulled into the story, you are ejected seconds later, utterly unchanged –– still bored out of your mind, which is now wandering off to think about what groceries you need for dinner later.

Throughout my life, I have read many bad books. But I always harbor the hope that a book will somehow get better if I just hit that thirty percent mark… or fifty percent mark… or ninety percent mark… yeah I know, but what if it has a killer ending?
